fashion originals #8: dame edna everage

So there I was - perusing Topshop's 'New In' section, and thoroughly enjoying all the psychadelic floral prints, sequinned bralets and all-round-general summer colour on show. Then, suddenly, what with these sunglasses and those shoes, a realisation struck that was both short and sweet. Sure enough, the hidden link soon revealed itself to my foggy,fashion-addled brain. This whole mental process, strangely enough, was soundtracked by a single, female voice: 'Hello, Possums.'

It's Dame Edna! And yes, whilst I am fighting back an urge to self-scold (out loud) with a 'Too far, Claire, too far,' at the same time I think we can learn a lot of fashion tips from the Dame. After all, her ostentatious super-stylin' gets more Dello Russo every time I look at it.

So, how to get in on the Dame Game? Well, with a little subduing of what is a very strong look, Dame Edna's penchant for colourful sequins, cats-eye sunglasses shapes and fairly modest heels can go a long way - just take one aspect of the look at a time, as per my selection above. You dig? Alternatively, why not go all out? As the Dame herself says, 'Never be afraid to laugh at yourself' (Possums).
